Patrol Programs

Foot/Pooch Patrol

The clear community benefit provided by the Foot/Pooch Patrol program includes the following:
  • A decrease in the number of autos that are stolen and abandoned in the Collingwood-Renfrew district
  • The ability to track and monitor patterns of criminal activities in the community, as well as identify potential problem areas in the future (e.g. skytrain expansion)
  • An overall decrease in the crime rate within the community
  • Residents taking greater pride in their neighbourhoods, including their own homes
  • An increased ability to gather feedback from residents

Providing local residents with the ability to identify criminal activity including stolen autos and drug houses. The Foot/Pooch Patrol is one of the most easily accessible programs that we offer. All residents who are willing to log their neighbourhood walks, either with their pets or on their own, are encouraged to participate in the program. The community support for the office's Foot/Pooch Patrol program has always been tremendous. We find that a large percentage of the area's residents are extremely interested in obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed in order to identify criminal activity in their neighbourhoods.

The Foot/Pooch Patrol program is sustained through the support of numerous donors, with a large amount of support coming from ICBC in terms of offering us access to their stolen auto database. Resources for the program have been and continue to be ensured through proper planning and the commitment of our sponsors; although, restructuring has resulted in an increased geographical area, requiring more resources for training and equipment. The impact of the Foot/Pooch Patrol program is long-term; although, the direct effect on the area's crime rate can only be measured using past statistics. This program deters criminal activity from occurring through regular patrols, and involves a large proportion of the local residents.

Have fun and be an important witness. Sign up for our Foot/Pooch program!

Bike Patrol

The Bike Patrol has been representing the community policing centre for the past four years. It has proven to be an excellent way of reaching out and building new partnerships between the community and the local police department. Our presence serves many functions from interacting with residents on a variety of community issues to simple visual deterrents. The Collingwood Community Policing Centre's Bike Patrol will continue to be the "eyes and ears" for the Vancouver Police Department and your community.

Today we have over 125 volunteers. Our Bike Patrol Members not only donate their time to this program, but they also assist in other programs sponsored by the Collinwood Community Policing Centre. For example, they help the Growbusters team by delivering pamphlets and canvassing the affected areas with surveys, they assist with Bike Roadeos at elementary schools, and they perform other tasks such as office duties.

Are you looking to improve your resume and try to get ahead of the competition? If you are, the Collingwood Community Policing Centre's volunteer Bike Patrol is a great place to start. What better way to increase your experience than working with the police and the community to build partnerships and make it a safer place to live!

You may be thinking that it may be too time consuming while going to school and trying to hold down a job and that this would just add more chaos to your already hectic schedule, but we work with your schedule. Currently, we are looking for volunteers that are willing to contribute approximately 8 hours per month to participate in this program.

What better way to get fresh air and exercise while discovering and reporting such things as marijuana grow operations and stolen cars, and all while gaining experience to be the best applicant you can be!
